Don't use the wrong college's name in your application.

Eg. "Why do you want to go to UChicago?" "Well, its always been my dream to attend Princeton..."

They're a lot of fun to think and write about; I used 'Find x' for my Common App essay last year.

I'm done with the college application process now (I actually enjoyed writing the essays, oddly enough), but I was wondering if you had any advice for the 'short answer' questions present in several supplements (Eg. Yale, Stanford). Also, some colleges like MIT don't accept the Common App, and only have a few short essay answer questions which don't really leave you with the room to write a story. How would you recommend approaching those?
