I think V6's will still be around as many manufacturers are downsizing their V8 models. See Jaguar/Land Rover, Ford F150 Ecoboosts, Mercedes, BMW (albeit inline), Audi 3.0T, etc.

Would you say that cars these days are more reliable in general, and as such manufacturers have a higher bar to reach? Because I'd say even a new Alfa is more reliable than some 80's thing that could catch on fire at 60k miles.
