As the smoke detector check-up guy, I can verify that you get access to 90% of places by just saying "Hi, I just need to take a quick look at that smoke detector there."

It's like a magical phrase really.

What if they slid down it to get to the bottom floor quicker and they crashed in to you? Imagine your surprise when you got woken up by a sliding parent and his/hers when they found you. Would've been interesting.

That sounds like a really cool gameplay mechanic. The thugs in Arkham are, except from what weapon they use, all the same. I really think this could make the enemies a little more diverse.
