My neighbors are in a similar situation with a brain damaged daughter that requires 24/7 care (their daughter had a tragic accident that resulted in brain damage, as a result she is in a partial vegetative state.)

How do you prefer people to interact with your child? Is it OK to say hello if you're out for a walk? I always feel really awkward- like there's an elephant in the room. Do you appreciate help around your yard? I always want to ask my neighbor if he wants help with things like shoveling snow etc, but I don't want to suggest they can't handle their situation.

Is it helpful to you to discuss your son's issues with friends and neighbors, or do you find it exhausting?

Lol I'm a biochemist and it's hilarious to hear people make that up. MSG is monosodium glutamate. It's the salt form of a nonessential (meaning your cells synthesize it ) amino acid. People that are allergic to glutamate are people who are dead (or have a horribly crippling autoimmune disease) since it's a building block to proteins in your body.
