Snakes absorb heat and end up warmer than the ground they are on. The show up on infrared camera.
Also the ground doesn't heat uniformly. Different materials absorb heat at different rates.
Infrared cameras easily pick this up, and could detect snakes.

I've always wondered why drones aren't used. These snakes need to sun themselves during certain parts of the day. Could some sort of heat detection software be used on a large scale?
