Who are some other drummers that have influenced you, and who are some other drummers that you've been watching as they rise in popularity/skill?

What's your usual thought process behind the kit when you are playing? Is it a focus on locking down the groove, and blocking out what everyone else is doing, or are you more of a 'listen to everybody but yourself and trust that you're playing the right thing' kind of performer?

I was just reading Moses’s Drum Wisdom, and that’s where I was inspired to ask the question about what you’re listening to while you’re playing— his whole idea is playing naturally, making sure the feel is strong and supported, and not going too crazy with it if it’s going to sabotage the song. That’s also something I’ve appreciated about your drumming before I understood any of his philosophies, your ability to shape yourself and what you play to each song individually, so consistently.

Also, I met you backstage after the first show at the capitol theater this December, and was trying to say that you were one of my favorites, but I got a little flustered in the moment. Thank you for inspiring me to think about what I’m playing and to meditate on it when I am playing it, to serve the song first and my ego second. I really appreciate all that you have done for music, and I hope that I can continue to see more of you on stage, but also off stage, on educational platforms and through community arts programs like the ones you have organized.
