I believe it's mainly a region by region basis, and less so a religious basis. Muslims that live and grow up in liberal regions are more likely to believe in liberal ideals than those that grow up in conservative regions, but that is the same with every group you could think of. Islam itself never covers the subject IIRC, although my family was rather non-religious so we didn't memorize the Qu'ran like a lot of Muslims. But I'd be happy to loojk if anyone doubts me. And Islam does state that what the religious writings don't explicitly cover, should be decided by the community.
