Better, gmail follows an old email standard that says if there's a + in the "name" portion of the email address the + and part after are only processed by the end user's account.

So if i am lordfairfax@gmail.com (I'm not) and i tell the clerk my address is lordfairfax+toysrus2018-07-04@gmail.com the address will be seen as unique and i will know what database was stolen when i get random spam.
