Most 60+ year olds aren’t about to walk over a kilometer to buy groceries.

Old Chinese people love to take a walk (散步) in the morning and evening. All the old Chinese grannies are always out in the street dancing in the summer nights dancing in their little groups too.

While there are probably more than a few unhealthy old 60+ year olds, most of the old people I've seen in cities (not rural areas) are pretty fit/healthy/can walk. Are they fast walkers? Not necessarily. Can they walk down the street to the corner store and buy stuff? Absolutely.

Based on personal observation, people aren't necessarily relying on going to a grocery store like Walmart or Ralphs or Albertsons to buy their stuff. There are little stores that they can buy their fruit from or something. And the older people aren't usually living that far from some kind of store.

Of course this is based on personal observation in larger cities. Rural areas or less populous cities would be different.
