He absolutely has a mental map.

I have a friend who is blind. The first thing we did when he visited was a tour of the house where I showed him where every door was and what room is there. At the important rooms for him he also had a quick orientation round.

And after that he could find his own way with no trouble save once.

We also did a board game with tiles and this is where the mental map thing showed too. He had a better grasp on what was on the table than I had as a sighted person.

Trust history, walls are not the solution.

Hopping on here with a sort of derivative train of thought: You say your eyelashes cost 18 bucks a pair and last two uses.

It will be worth the effort of finding out if you can buy them in bulk and get wholesale price for them. It might be a bit of a search though but you should be able to get them way under a tenner a pair.
