How do you reconcile your position with the rising homeless populations in major cities? When provided permanent housing the vast majority have refused it. Many have drug addictions or mental problems and are left to roam the streets instead of getting care that would actually support them.

The fact that a comment like this, from someone who is actively trying to help people, is being downvoted tells you everything you need to know about the general public’s approach to this problem. This should be one of the highest voted comments and we should be getting more information from this person on how they think we can improve the situation.

I feel it’s necessary to point out that the length of detentions need to be clarified. A 3 day detention won’t do anything. That’s what they have in California and nothing is being solved

I am 100% in favor of outcome tracking. The theory that short term detentions solve problems, by your own research and admission, is disproven. So longer term detentions are obviously required.

Have you looked into the length of the detentions? They are often just 5150 holds that last 1-3 days. The same person can be “detained” multiple times in a year. The detentions need to be for months or years to have any impact.
