I think the idea for now is that only participating companies will really care. It's more of a trade school than a university. Similar companies to the participating bunch might also care.

My guess: robots are being programmed to respond to physical stimuli deemed detrimental to their physical wellbeing, like bending the metal in the arms. Maybe even stronger responses in proportion to more dangerous stimuli.
