That's interesting. I probably should have expected the answer given that that is exactly how I answered it too.
By the time I got out I absolutely loathed the Army. Real pure, concentrated hate. But now a few years later I can't help but feel thankful and even a little nostalgic when I think back on it.
The military gave me something amazing that you can't buy anywhere, and that is something worse to compare it to.
I think this quote of yours nails exactly why. It's almost a little annoying. The Army won't even let me fucking hate it on my own terms hahah
Anyhow, thanks for the response. Best of luck to you and (pay attention 'cause I'm only doing this once):

Hey man, stoked to see a vet excelling in the "real" world, a term whose application I generally find pretty ironic.
My question is: how do you think the things you saw and did in the Marines informs your perspective on the new challenges you face today and the ones you expect to face in the future?

I love the fact that she distinguishes between an Irishman and an Italian. Different times.
Edit: As a group, people responding to this are coming across as pretty dense/unaware of our cultural and political climate in America. How much have we heard about the "Irishman" or "Italian man" vote this election?
How much did we hear about the "white male" vote? Boom, roasted. See ya.
