What books/papers have influenced your thinking the most and/or what books/papers do you think you've learned the most from?

How are discoveries/breakthroughs in AI most commonly made, and do you think this will change in the future? Can breakthroughs in AI be initially attributed to one of the following paradigms for discovery more commonly than the others: 1. insight gained from thought experiments, 2. insight gained from empirical results, 3. biological or neuroscience-based insights, 4. insight gained from pure mathematics, or 5. other paradigm that i haven’t thought of yet? In part, how often have revolutionary ideas/inventions in AI come from insights gained from pure mathematics?
