How did you come to terms with that?

It's apparent that you already have a ton of drive and vision. While your degree can help, it sounds like you are someone that doesn't need a degree to do cool shit.

UC Santa Cruz is a great school for electrical engineering. I think it is also a great major because it will help you get better at building bigger and better reactors. It sounds like you have the theory down. Electrical engineering can get you better at building things, which can take you a lot farther than theory can.
