70lb pack is impressive. What is one of the items you discarded that you can now laugh at yourself for bringing?

I'm sure you learned your lesson very quickly! On my first trip I brought a camp shovel and an entire paper towel roll. I can't help but look back and laugh.

How's your mother been through all of this? You seem really concerned about yourself. Buck up, learn the language, get better grades. Get a job to help support your struggling mother and help dig your family out of poverty. You are young but you are capable of making a difference in the lives of the ones you love. When you have done all this you can be the one responsible for bringing our family back to the states and making sure your mother doesn't have to worry about living on the streets.
