As a Vikings fan, I'll also answer this question for you. None. It was purely financial. Chris is an awesome guy. But financially, it didn't make sense to keep him. The Vikings drafted UCLA punter Jeff Locke in the fifth round. Last year they grabbed NFL record-breaking kicker Blair Walsh in the sixth. So as far as special teams scouting goes, they seem to know what they're doing. Now onto finances, Locke's four-year contract will include a signing bonus of $184,192, which along with a first-year base salary of $405,000, will cost the Vikings $589,192 in cash and $451,048 in salary cap dollars in 2013. Kluwe had been scheduled to earn $1.45 million in both cash and cap dollars 2013, the final season of a contract he signed with the Vikings midway through the 2007 season. By going with the rookie over Kluwe, the Vikings will save over $860,000 in cash and $998,952 in cap space.

As far as Kluwe, he was a good punter, we didn't exactly release Ray Guy here. He was middle of the road or bottom third in every punting statistic. I wish him the best of luck in Oakland and he's an awesome guy! But it's also important to not make it seem like he was kicked out of town for his beliefs. It was purely business.
