A few years ago my parents gave me a set of cutlery for my six month old daughter, to celebrate her being old enough to eat solid food. Baby cutlery, obviously. I had forgotten it in my carry on, and TSA interrogated my about the knife in my bag, which was just about sharp enough to cut through peanut butter with a little effort.
The "baby knife" argument did not pass muster with the agent, and it was duly confiscated along with some chastising for daring to try to smuggle a knife into a plane.
Of course, once you're through security, you can buy a set of metal travel cutlery kits, nail clippers, whatever you like. But my daughter couldn't have the tiny little table knife that was a gift from her grandparents.
