My sister just got one in the last couple of weeks. She only lost her hearing a year ago so she can pretty accurately describe the difference. She said it sounds like a lot of hissing sounds. Eventually with training her brain will begin to understand those sounds and they'll become recognisable.

I was helping her with some basic word training the other night. Saying similar sounding words 3 times each and then I'd pick one of them to say at the end and she'd have to identify it. It's only very early days.
