As OP said, everyone is different. If that doesn't work out don't get discouraged, try different methods. It's a lot of work too and you should expect to write, rewrite and edit quite a lot but always try to cling to the initial idea/feeling you were going after.

For a lot people, laying things out and organizing them before they start the story really helps them keep the pace up and avoid inconsistencies so that's what I'd recommend. Keep a list of the things that happen in each chapter, important questions that will keep you on track like What am I trying to convey? What are my characters' motivations? Their problems?, etc.

Also, don't get too stressed out looking for the most original, unheard of, captivating premise. Anything works; what you should go for is character and world development.

Reading a lot helps too and putting yourself in a creative environment, surrounded by constant stimulus is probably, fmpov, the most important thing.

What do you think of writing stand-alone episodes in the same universe? There's a lot of potential in this kind of world and I think it'd be awesome if in the future we got to learn about characters unrelated to the main storyline.
