Hi B.J.

I think the decision to introduce the documentary crew as a plot point during season 9 of “The Office” was, er, bold, but it did raise some questions. Such as:

  1. Why did the crew decide not to intervene when Stanley had a heart attack or when Michael was planning to accidentally jump to his death off the roof, but then Brian chose to act when the attractive, vulnerable woman was crying?

  2. There is a scene where the staff of the branch turns off the microphones so they won’t be overheard, but then it is revealed that the crew had parabolic mics and could get sound regardless. But if that is the case, why was there no sound when Pam finds out she’s pregnant or when Michael turned off his microphone right before leaving forever?

  3. Speaking of Michael leaving forever, why didn’t a camera crew follow him? They followed Dwight and Andy after they quit, but not the central character of seven years?

Allegations, but nothing more. All charges dropped, victim supported Smith, no further issues. Here's the writeup.

Direct quote from the alleged victim: "At no point did I feel I was in danger, otherwise I would've called the police myself, which I did not. The police were called by others not present in the room who mistakenly perceived the argument to be something other than what it was."

At no point did anyone witness or claim to have witnessed an assault taking place, they just heard a loud argument and thought something bad was happening. At the risk of making a joke about a touchy subject, it was basically an irl version of someone hearing Donny yell and (understandably) getting concerned enough to call the cops.

I don't know if you watched season 9 or not, but the documentary crew is revealed and they become characters in the show, which means they have internal motivations that can be discussed and analyzed

I do often think about how she feels about that. She gave up her role on the show as soon as she heard about the allegations, only for it to turn out that they were completely unfounded and nothing really happened.

idk, maybe she doesn't believe the police and thinks something bad really did happen, or maybe she and Smith had issues on set that we didn't hear about and this was the last straw, but that's gotta sting a bit when you sever all ties with something that was such a huge part of your life (and is the reason you're a minor celebrity) only to realize that you jumped the gun and didn't need to do that.

It's also worth noting that Lucy herself (the person, not the actor) was one of the women who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Jian Ghomeshi (former CBC radio personality) so anything involving violence against women is kind of a sensitive issue for her.

That's my whole point. Season 9 proved that it actually was a real documentary, hence my questions.
