Was there a hint of irony or raising awareness here or was it a genuine social experiment?

Thats funny, I can see why, but it is kind of crazy that way. It just isn't the same, is it...

Please explain your stance on why we should continue to pursue science for sciences' sake. Many of the space, particle physics and other subjects are not subjects that fundamentally further mankind's immediate well being. I call them "interesting", but certainly not essential. Since science has started there has been this almost endless forward pursuit of answers, similar to say, the continued progress of painting methods in art. Why should this type of science continue to get funded over say, vaccinations for those who can't afford it or programs to improve inner city education, or even for that matter, art?

I am going to hit you with a tough one. What is the worst case that you know of where your philanthropy backfired? Here I mean the worst party possible benefitted from the gift. I am curious because I think there are important lessons to be learned from these kinds of stories for myself and others passionate about giving to the people who need it most .
