The patent system has to work for a ridiculous variety of industries. Patents in many cases are necessary to ensure investors get a return on the expensive work of developing new technology. Finally, anyone versed in economic thinking wouldn't say one thing is more important than another like that. The patent doesn't mean the price has to be any particular price. The price is determined by the cost of the research and what the market will bear. There's no individual anywhere making a judgement call about one thing being more important than another thing.
