Gov't surveillance of #blacklivesmatter is obviously reminiscent of COINTELPRO (OWS was also heavily surveiled). Given the apparent effectiveness of surveillance back in the 60s-70s, what can be done on the ground to combat gov't surveillance today? Has surveillance had a chilling effect on the BLM protests, in your opinion?
Edit: Besides state and county police departments, do you foresee federal agencies becoming antagonistic towards BLM?

Interesting. Thanks for the response. As a follow up, does this mapping/monitoring put protestors at risk of arrest or is it used passively?
Perhaps /u/derayderay or /u/nettaaaaaaaa could answer this one: have you seen technologies such as FireChat (used in the Hong Kong protests) used in protests in the US? Do you think this kind of tech is an effective organizing tool?

While presented as a non-ideological initiative for 'The People', there is undoubtedly an inherently progressive aspect to what the MayDay SuperPAC is aiming to do. To what degree can this campaign be nonpartisan if getting money out of politics is a traditionally left-leaning goal?

What advice do you have for young people trying to keep the Internet open? Can we combat the bad legislation that has passed/will pass with only technical solutions?
