Why?

Didn't answer the question. Why should surgery be the absolute last resort? I see lots of people on /r/Spondylolisthesis who suffer through years of injections, chiropractors, physical therapy, etc, when surgery I suspect that surgery would have been the better option all along. Why manage the pain when the root of the pain goes untreated?

This is a great answer, I just wanted to hear it from an MD and with research-backed info? And maybe there are other reasons you and I haven't considered?
