In many parts of SC, yes, that's a VERY comfortable wage, even if it's a pre-tax amount, which they have stated repeatedly that it's the after-tax amount.

I currently do some ghost writing for a content mill during the winter when my normal job slows down. I've sort of investigated Upwork before, but was put off by the fee they charge. Is PPH the same? How do you navigate that? Also, is it pitching yourself to clients? Or is there another way you're "picked" for an assignment?

I've worked for some that really suck. The one I'm on now I enjoy though, because it pays decently well. There's an incentive to write well, as the customer can choose to reject your submission if it isn't good enough.
