Back when we used to be poor as dirt, we had beans+tortillas for the majority of the weak. Tortilla with butter in the morning, and beans+tortilla at night. Meat was more of a once a week thing. Simple soups other days. One thing they taught us growing up, is never play with food. When I moved to the US there was a food fight in middle school, and I felt so uneasy, nervous, and literately sick to my stomach at what I had seen. I didn't participate, just walked out of the cafeteria and felt like I had seen something so wrong. I never understood the feeling until later on in life. I still don't feel right about tossing food, leaving a plate empty, and buffets sometimes make me feel bad. It's just so much damn food in this country that people never realize how lucky they are.

I feel like this could be the best intro/final sentence to a novel. God damn it hit me unexpectedly right in the feels.
