Don't turn down invitations to social opportunities. Even if you don't think you'll have fun, there will be at least one other person there who feels the same. Even something dumb like a Reddit meetup. Stay in social situations and you will meet enough people to enjoy the company of some of them. No expectations, just go to that sports game, furry convention, museum, or stock meeting. Someone waiting in li e in front of you has a shirt with a band you recognize? That's a conversation starter. Someone has a pet? Ask the breed or if you can pet it. Most pet owners have interesting stories of why they chose that breed, or the one time Shnauzer bit a kid's pinkie finger off.
