They have a legal responsibility to regardless of your psychological state if you claim to have tried to harm yourself recently. It's called a 5150 (the medical code), entailing a 72 hour hold for monitoring if you are a danger to yourself or others.
Yes their psychologists may have sucked at diagnosing you or adressing an issue, but they are legally bound to hold you regardless.
