Most people buying truly large amounts are probably buying wholesale, not from a retail stand. Wholesale mostly sells by the case (which is typically 2-4 500g cakes, 8-12 200g cakes or 6-8 boxes of artillery shells), so you lose a little variety, but the per item cost is much lower and would more than offset the cost of LTL freight shipping.

I work for a large university, and we have very specific ethics requirements that is really annoying to have to re-read every year, but it does a good job of outlining everything. I think for us we can't accept more than $25 or $50 at a time and no more than $100 from the same donor in a given year, or we have to either return the gift or donate the item or its cash value to charity, and if we have questions, there's an ethics hotline that gets us a quick answer. So $10 from a few students is probably okay.

Listen to local authorities and evacuate if the order is given. The current forecast has Dorian hitting the coast as a Category 4, with winds of 130-156 mph. That's easily enough to throw around large debris, which will break any unprotected windows. That looks to me like the biggest threat to Miami right now. If Dorian goes down the center of the cone of uncertainty (the projected path), the eye will hit north of Miami, so due to the counter-clockwise rotation the winds will blow west to east, meaning storm surge will be minimal if not negative for Miami (but storm surge is a risk to the north of the eye). However, if the storm tracks further south, Miami could end up north of the eye and storm surge could become a concern.

Very true about the car dealership mentality. Like a car, you have to realize sticker price is sucker price and be prepared to haggle. The mattress I bought last year had a sticker price of $2,499 just for the mattress. I offered $2,000 including the boxspring and delivery, and the fact that they accepted and didn't counter my offer means I probably could have gone even lower.
