After habitat loss, fire ants are the biggest threat from what I've heard. They're actively treating the areas around nesting sights but it's an uphill battle because there's fire ants everywhere.

With the sale of the Latt Maxcy Ranch, are you aware of the state/university reaching out to the new owners for for the opportunity to do research on the El Maximo Ranch? Seems like this will be a huge swath of the nesting area that's been largely off limits to researchers.
