Those things are really difficult to drive! Thats awesome you could even get it moving as a kid. They have a manual ignition advance for chistsake and the early ones you had to start with a hand crank :)

Not a Nascar driver, but I race in a few amateur series' (24 Hours of LeMons, Chumpcar, SpecE30, etc)

The belts are tight in our cars too, and if you need any extra support, you use your left leg and push yourself back with the dead pedal. (far left- just a solid foot rest)
