In the Corporate world we buy 3 year next day onsite warranties. Once that warranty expires we use several broken PCs of the same model to create one good one and or keep a cache of old parts at hand. Once the Cache is gone or that model is too old and slow we retire it. I would never recommend someone spending $250-300 on a $500 laptop with no warranty.
