2) I'm in charge of a lot of the logistics for the live show, so I can provide a pretty comprehensive answer for that. Basically Chris (guitar), Dan (baritone guitar), Matt's bass, and Andy's guitar are all independent, and they all have their own rather expansive pedalboards. Everyone else is running in and out of the computer (running Ableton Live) in some way. I control that. We are running 4 MIDI ins, 3 audio ins and 8 audio outs out of an RME interface. All of my keyboard sounds are patches in Ableton Live, and I'm also controlling a variety of processing / effects and sometimes live looping with my top MIDI controller (it has tons of sliders and knobs). When Andy and/or Matt play keyboards, they're playing patches in Ableton as well. Sometimes Andy is playing samples of cut up guitar (such as on Island, IS), because we don't like using backing tracks, and that's the only way to achieve it. Justin is also running into the computer, and gets processed by grainulators / reverbs, and has control over an Antares Harmony engine running in the computer (he has his own USB controller) so he can do different harmonies all by himself. We all sing on the group vocal parts of the record (think "Set Sail" on Byegone), but I'm doing a lot of the more specific harmony parts, and my vocals are also running into the computer, and being processed in a variety of ways.
It is quite a complex set up and took a long time to set up, but I feel like we're finally in complete control over everything, and able to sound just like the record without relying on straight playback...
