We had a block with shitty access like that once, but luckily it we only spent a couple weeks there before moving on.

It rained so hard for three days straight that most of the tents were swimming and we actually had to call it off mid-shift and go into town.

When we came back, it took the vans 45 minutes to go 6km and required us to pile out of the van and push it up hills repeatedly. At that point we got into the back of the trucks (with flatbeds for hauling trees, but we put people in there instead). They took us to kilometer 26, where the road had washed out. We got into the Rolligon for another 3km and then the crews split up. One took the quads, one stayed in the Rolly, and the other went for a walk.

Tree Planting takes its toll on the body regardless of what you do, but if your technique is clean you can seriously limit the effects and keep planting for years and years without issue.

Personally, I planted for four seasons and have no back or wrist trouble, but I know several people who had to quit planting in 2-3 seasons due to back pain or tendinitis.

In the end it all comes down to your technique. If your technique is clean, you'll be OK. If it's not, well, you can guess how your body handles doing the same incorrect action 3,000 times per day.

For back pain specifically, I found that not wearing shoulder straps helped with this since your back isn't carrying any extra weight all day. The problem there is that most men don't have wide enough hips to support the heavy planting bags alone. Advantage: women.

Chrome always leaves off that mighty http://

There is a HUGE bug report thread full of angry people that want the developers to put the scheme back in the address bar in Chrome. I am one of them. For a while I even went so far as to download the Chromium sources, modify them, and compile the application myself.

Eventually I just went back to Firefox. Unfortunately they followed suite shortly after and removed the scheme from their address bar too, but at least it's a simple matter of turning it back on in about:config. Chrome offers no way to do it, shy of modifying the source code yourself.

This is exactly the sort of problem I have with it. It breaks URL parsers everywhere and trains people that 'http://' is not an important part of a web address. It creates annoyances with copy/paste, and generally has no proven benefits.

1mil+ in 8 years is absolutely realistic, and depends largely on where you were planting and how long your seasons were.

I only planted in Manitoba, for about 2.5 months each summer for four years and I put in over 400,000 trees.

If you plant in Ontario, the ground is typically scarified (prepared), so you can plant more trees per day on average (though you get paid less per tree). If you plant in Alberta you plant significantly fewer trees, but get paid a much higher price per tree ($0.15 vs $0.10 in MB and $0.08 in Ontario)

My average in my fourth (and fastest) year was around 3400 per day, with a personal best of 4260. I only broke the 4,000 mark a handful of times.
