Despite being a hardcore fan of decentralisation, I think it's definitely positive overall, but a lot of its negative aspects are founded it centralisation.

I think the way in which people are connected in communities and with friends and family thousands of miles away is good. But the negative aspects such as the popularity of fake news, poor moderation and lacking privacy are due to the fact that sensationalised news and 'flamewars' benefit the social media platforms financially. If we create decentralised communities these can moderate themselves, there is more trust and less financial incentive, so many of the problems are eliminated.

He's mostly correct, Reddit does not have some of the issues that decentralised social media can fix, but it certainly has a lot of them!
