What is your memory here? (hopefully this isn't too personal a question).

What advice do you have for regular employees of young start ups to help manage inexperienced/naive leadership?

I am applying to a fellowship that trains me to be a medical director of a clinical lab. The fellowship is for post phd and post md individuals. My questions for you all are-- 1. what makes a good lab director and 2 in general what impresses them?
