After thinking about it I assumed Azog died of his wounds in the battle for Moria after Thorin cut off his arm (almost like the original lore) and the Necromancer brought him back from death. So there would be a more solid connection between Azog and Ringwraiths (who are, in-movie-verse also brought back from death by the Necromancer). I have not seen anything in the series to confirm such theory but I always liked the sound of it. Strange how a little piece of music in a scene could spawn such complicated plot points.

That is a formal response. You don't have be 'officially' in war to retaliate an attack. Here's to hoping that officials will calm down and try to think rational.
